Justin Lomont


Justin uses 2D-IR spectroscopy to study the structure and aggregation pathway of the amyloid-beta (Aβ) peptides that principally constitute amyloid plaques associated with Alzheimer’s disease. He is also working with other group members on protein crystallization and advancing 2D-IR as a technique for monitoring protein aggregation.

Before coming to UW-Madison, he received his B.S. in Chemistry from the University of Michigan and his PhD in Chemistry from the University of California Berkeley under the guidance of Charles Harris. His PhD work focused primarily on using ultrafast spectroscopy and computational chemistry to study the role of spin state changes on organometallic reaction dynamics.
